Earlier last week Lolo asked if she could come for a visit. She’s currently not working (that’s gonna change soon) and Nathan has already been gone for three weeks for his Marine training. She came Friday late afternoon with both dogs and planned on having dinner with us, but ended up staying all weekend. Can you imagine how much I hated that? HA. She didn’t even bring a change of clothes or dog food but borrowed some of my stuff and Callie shared her vittles with the pups. We had a very nice low key weekend doing wedding invite/save the date projects, watched TV, spread mulch in the garden, tending to my houseplants, lots of laughing, and watching the dogs play in the yard.
I Just Became Old And Avoiding Crescent Rolls
At one point we opened up my laptop to see if we could find anything acceptable for me to wear to the wedding; some questionable choices included a few dresses with cut-outs in the waist or back areas. I laughed picturing me wearing those and I referenced the Pillsbury crescent roll containers when you ‘pop them open’; stuff oozing out of an opening.
ME: I’m going to be 54 when you get married, I can’t wear a dress with cutouts. OH MY GOSH, I’m getting old!
Lolo: Everyone is old, it’s ok.
Me: Babies. Babies are NOT old.
Lolo: Some babies ARE old.
We busted out laughing and we continued to belly laugh about nonsense all weekend.
When the girls were in High School and they were going somewhere on Friday or Saturday night I would always remind them to “Drive safe, everyone out there is drunk.” We tend to paint things with a broad stroke.
Everybody’s drunk. Everybody’s old. Now I feel better about myself.
They had their engagement photos done a few months back and ya’ll, I can’t even with how darn cute they are.
What The Heck Just Happened?
So, we watched this really deep, bizarre, and emotional show on Hulu; The previews were elusive and it peaked the brain of our resident Psych Major. Psych Master. Master Major. You know what I mean. Derek Delguadio, In & Of Itself. We didn’t know what to expect and when it was finished, we still didn’t know what we had actually experienced, but at one point we were both crying. Part magic, self-exploration, slight of hand. One catchline they use is Identity Is An Illusion. I started to wonder, who AM I? If you watch it, you’ll understand that part.
After all that brain work I shared with Lolo a little phenomenon known as An Officer And A Gentleman. I figured we could see what Nathan might be living through right now in his Marine boot camp. Wait, do you think his drill sergeant might look like Richard Gere 38 years ago? Have you watched that movie in the last 10 years? I had completely forgotten how it began, but I can never forget how it ends.
Who doesn’t dream of being carried out of the paper mill by a Navy Officer? Well, wait a minute, you know I’d be crying over the death of ALL those trees….so never mind.
We All Need An Uncle Frank
This was such a sweet movie. We laughed, we cried, we laughed again. Damn it. Love IS love. It made me miss my Brother Mark even more and of course, my mind wonders what our family dynamic would be if he was still living. *sigh*
I give it fourteen thumbs up.
That was a lot for a weekend with ZERO plans; I’m so thankful for time with my girls whether it’s planned or spontaneous. We mentioned the phrase EVERYONE IS OLD several times and she stated as she was leaving: “That is gonna be in a blog post, I just know it.” Damn skippy it is.
Did you watch any good stuff on the boob tube this weekend?
xo
Thanks for the Uncle Frank recommendation! I had seen it and thought it looked interesting, but then completely forgot about it….cuz I AM OLD. 🤣🤣🤣

I haven’t seen the Richard Gere movie in decades. Am I going to feel ancient once I see it again? I don’t know if I’m up to feeling old during the bleakest part of winter. The Uncle Frank movie sounds great. Now if we’d only get Amazon Prime.

I thought everyone on the planet had Amazon. No?

No, we resist its pull. So far.

You will love it for the most part. A few areas that are sad with regard to NOT being accepted; that tugged at my heart. But overall, it was a feel-good movie.
Thank you, those two are a beautiful couple.

Oh, this sounds so fun. An unexpected visit with Lolo full of laughs and movies and dress shopping. That photo is really lovely.
Coach and Curly and I just watched a movie on Netflix called Fisherman’s Friends. It’s PG-13. We have a hard time finding appropriate shows that we can watch with her or Reg or even the older kids – because we aren’t on board with watching racy shows with them. I do always claim that we can be ready with the remote to fast forward, but I suck at that. When Curly is at a friend’s house, we take so long to find something that we want to watch that is made for grownups that by the time we agree – one or both of us is asleep on the couch.
Anyway, Fisherman’s Friends was cute and entertaining. I haven’t seen an Officer and a Gentlemen in forEVER.
I love the EVERYONE IS OLD thought process. I might borrow the EVERYONE ELSE IS DRUNK phrase when my teens are leaving the house.

I can imagine it’s difficult to find a good movie that is also family-friendly; I think those days are over for the most part.
Oh, and everyone IS drunk on Friday and Saturday. I thought that was known.

In and Of Itself looks like something I need to watch! Also, Uncle Frank! I was crying at the trailer, so I feel like it will be amazing.
We are re-watching Schitt’s Creek again.
I got nothing new.

Please watch In and Of itself and let me know what you think. There were moments of our jaws dropping and also lots of deep thinking. Who am I really? Am I who I SEE? Or am I as others see me? Hmmmm…
People keep telling me I should watch Bridgerton on Netflix; gonna add it to my queue.

I will watch it for sure! Let me know what you think of Bridgerton.

I know. Was that incredible or what? Our jaws dropped!
And at the end when he went to each person and said what they had labeled themselves as. Was it what THEY chose? Or was it what they really were but didn’t know it? Deep thoughts for sure.

What a wonderful weekend! How lovely for you! I am very very slowly making my way through the Crown. My boys say I’m the opposite of a binge-watcher as I will watch one episode and then weeks go by. Whoops! Sometimes so long goes between I forget what happened. Thank goodness it’s historical, so I can google.

I’ve been working on a few shows since Thanksgiving (The Crown) is one of them that I’ve not been able to binge, but can go weeks in between. Yes, I too forget what happened because I’m OLD.

My youngest daughter – she’s 22 and I am also feeling old – loves to watch OLD aka 80’s movies with me and I was just telling her about An Officer and a Gentlemen. It’s on this weeks agenda!!
My best friend ( from high school) son is an Officer and he married himself a pregnant “Lynette” a few years ago. While he’s been stationed in Korea, his Lynette has been entertaining many other officers on the base where she lives with their kids. This week has been full of BFF text updates of the nasty court battle and It’s like a terrible soap opera that I can’t stop watching.
I’ve never heard of Uncle Frank. I’ll look that one up.
The engagement photo is so beautiful, what a gorgeous family! Glad that you got to spend some fun quality time with your daughter.

What fun to have your girl for the whole darned weekend! See, I’m old too, “darned weekend”, ha. She is indeed lovely, what fun, too, to plan a wedding! As for Richard Gere, he was at my high school graduation! His sister graduated with me, class of 1983, North Syracuse high. My mom took pics of him in the bleachers that day, but when we got our photos developed at the little place in town (see, I’m OLD!), those pics were all missing! I KNOW the girl who worked there got some cute close ups of Richard! Anyway. It’s nice you have such fun with your daughter, there’s nothing like it!

Funny about Richard Gere and the missing photos. You’d think the chick would have just printed more of them and let you have yours. NOT.NICE.

Everyone I know is old. Wait. Should that be “Everyone knows I’m old”? Either way–true.
I always thought Richard Gere looked like a beagle.

You know…and even *I* can’t believe it – but I don’t think I’ve ever seen An Officer and a Gentleman.
Uncle Frank looks like a great movie. I’m currently binging on Orange is the New Black (yes, I’m way behind everyone else on this) that is taking me forever because I forgot what happened in the last episode…because I’m OLD. I may set OITNB aside tonight to watch Uncle Frank.

LOL My daughter and I have been watching Race Across the World on Discovery Plus. Its a BBC show. We did a VPN and now we are watching the second season. Its so good and interesting.

How nice tht your daughter spent the weekend with you! That engagement photo is beautiful! When my daughter was engaged her fiancé had to work in Chicago for 6 months so we spent a lot of time together doing wedding stuff! It was fun! An Office and a Gentleman will always be my favorite movie. Did you know Richard Gere and Debra Winger hated each other? Goes to show what good actors they were!
