Another Heartbreak Before Celebrating All The Birthdays

Our Christmas was lovely. I mean, I went into it begrudgingly, but we had an amazing Christmas Eve; four were not able to attend (some were sick, some have weird priorities) but my girlies were there and that’s the Best. We had 13 people in the house, along with SIX dogs. Four of those dogs are considered large beasts, so I’d like a trophy for not losing my shit.

Backing Up the Busy Bee Bus, the Friday before Christmas, I had to let our Lillie go. I’m crying again just writing this, well, it’s only been six days, so I’m still deep in the mourning process. She wasn’t doing well, and we knew the day was coming, but damn it to hell, it was the hardest thing I’ve had to do. I mean, I’ve put down four cats and three dogs, but Lillie was my heart dog and it hurt like hell making that call. When I adopted her, I thought I’d have at least 5-7 years with her. We had her less than two years and only one Christmas together.

Most of you walked (read) the Lillie Journey with me, so you know how obsessed I was with her.

Her last morning; enjoying some vitamin D with her new annoying sibling.

She was one of a kind and there will never be a replacement for her.

Happy Birthday Jesus

Please note that Peanut wore her Christmas PJ’s for over 24 hours as our temperature never got above 50 on the 25th and 26th. Finally on Sunday night I declared (to no one in particular) that I’m putting on the heater; it was 63* in the house. (yes, my husband still wore shorts the entire holiday)

Happy Birthday Lindsay

Linds celebrated her Golden Birthday; 27 on the 27th. We had a lovely Italian dinner with her bestie, her BF and my FIL and MIL.

My sweet, funny, has-the-biggest-heart Lindsay, she is such a special girl and she’s really thriving and doing well. When your kids are happy, well it’s the very best feeling in the world. I hope this year brings even more goodness into her life. And if I could share one thing of hers with all of you, it would be her big laugh; it’s my favorite.

Her bestie said that the last photo looks like The Last Supper, but Linds has zero Disciples; which is insane because I’d follow her anywhere!

I’ll spend the next few weeks days catching up with all of you. I hope everyone had a great holiday with all their favorite people. (My Feedly blog list shows I’ve missed 72 posts—ya’ll are so talky even when there’s a major holiday 😳)

XOXO

  1. So sorry to read of Lillie’s passing. What a joy and treasure she was! You gave her a wonderful life that any dog would love, and that’s the important thing.

Yes, your daughter’s Bday photo does look like the Last Supper, lol. I see wine on the table and is that a bread basket at the front of the photo?

  2. My heart is breaking with you and for you on the loss of that beautiful girl. Even when we know it’s coming and it’s the kindest thing we can do, it hurts. Very glad you had the love and comfort of family over the holidays.
    *big hugs*

  3. I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your quirky little dog! Never easy – they are members of our families, aren’t they? I’m glad, though, that you had a very nice Christmas with your daughters and a very happy birthday to the birthday girl! She’s a wee bit older than my daughter. It’s amazing when our kids become adults! -Jenn

  4. RIP Sweet LIllie. I’m so very sorry. The photo of her last morning, oh my heart. I didn’t know all of your other pets, but I got the sense that Lillie was something special. I’m sorry that you didn’t get more time with her. XO

Peanut’s pjs combined with the look on her face, priceless.

Your Christmas sounds lovely. You do deserve a trophy for hosting so many large dogs. Kids becoming adults has been more fun than I anticipated . . . mostly. 😉 We’re still working on some under-developed frontal lobes over here in Shenanigan-ville, heavy on the shenanigans if you catch my drift.

I have not been talky-talky, for once. I’m hosting again tomorrow, Coach’s side. Then next week a combined boys and girls varsity basketball teams pasta party. (insert googlie-eyed emoji), but I’ll post something soon.

    1. Thank you for your kind words.

Some kids (boys?!) tend to take longer to fill up that frontal lobe.

You’ve been quiet on the blog—-that means serious stuff is happening! YOU ARE HOSTING ON YOUR BIRTHDAY!? XO

  5. Oh, Suz. Dear little Lillie. I am so, so sorry.

Thank heavens you were there just when she needed you most. She left this life knowing nothing but love and comfort, and both were so well-deserved.

And I’m glad you had your family and joyful events to counterbalance Lillie’s departure. Life is so often like that, and such is the nature of Love. XO

    1. Nance, I keep going back and thinking of what she might have endured if not for us.
Her previous person loved her but certainly didn’t give her the ‘health care’ that she needed. (she was in need of spaying and hernia repair) So, she gained a few years on earth because of us. I’m still so sad that her time was so limited though…

Thank you for your sweet sentiments, always.

  6. Oh, Lillie. Sweet sweet Lillie. I know this pain all too well, Suz, and I’m sending you all the love in the world. Even when you know it’s coming, it’s just the absolute worst. Holding you in my heart. xo

Happy birthday to Linds! You are right, when your kids are happy, it’s the best. I heard a saying that a mother is only as happy as her unhappiest child, and boy, did that strike me as accurate. It goes the other way too though! I’m so happy she’s thriving.

    Merry Christmas, darling Suz. xo

The holidays are the worst time to lose someone, pets included. I’m so sorry. But I’m glad you had some happy celebrations over the last week. Happy New Year, my sweet friend

Aww so sorry about Lillie. Just know she had the best possible home for the last years of her life. I’m glad you were able to have some fun family times in spite of your sad heart.

  9. Oh I am so sorry about Lillie! It hurts to lose a fur baby! I know as we had to put our 18.5 year old cat to sleep on the 10th. 😦 You gave her a good life! Happy New Year and a belated happy Birthday to Lindsay!

Noooo, I’m so sorry. No time would have been good, but what a terrible time. My heartfelt sympathies.

Happy birthday to your gorgeous girl. That IS a great picture. It is such a great feeling when your kids are thriving, and so hard when they’re not. How nuts are we, thinking it’s a good idea to put these hostages to fortune out in the world?
