Crossing Off Things Is An Addiction I Can Get Behind & TTFN

For the past few years we’ve needed to do something about our shower floor tile. The marble was in good shape, but the grout was terrible; I’d had three contractors come and look at repairing/replacing the grout and they all said I need to redo the whole shower floor. That was last year and I felt defeated, but this year, I was renewed, I was determined! I was also sick of looking at the nasty shower floor.

Finally, I contacted a tile guy via Thumbtack. We liked him, we liked is price, we liked his reviews and it was scheduled. I found some lovely floor tile that coordinated with the shower walls and bathroom floor and he came back a few weeks later to prep the floor with a primer.

The day he started the work, I’d kept the Frenchies at the back of the house behind a baby gate while he primed the floor; he would come back the next day to lay the tile. When he finished the primer and departed, I’d let the girls out and they were happy to have access to the whole house again.

Picture me at the countertop on my laptop after I’d set the dogs free, just Lolly dolling away, when I’d realized what I’d just done: I had NOT shut our bathroom door.

THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS

The Frenchies were drawn to the wet primer like flies to sh*t. In a matter of minutes, they tramped it all over the bathroom floor and that stuff dried fast! I got most of it up, but not all. And I was able to get most off their paws, but I did initiate a run/play party on the driveway to get more primer off their pads with concrete as a helper.

(we’re having our marble floors polished and sealed in June, which was needed anyway!)

Before and After:

We’re thrilled with the result!

GET OUT OF INTO THE CLOSET

When we did our big remodel in 2016, the way the interior/exterior walls were adjusted, we decided to close-in a previous angled, sliding glass door in our bedroom. For a few years, we had a lovely wardrobe/pie cabinet in the weird shaped spot, but it just wasn’t right and we eventually took the pie cabinet to Georgia where it resides in our master bathroom.

We decided to make this odd corner into a closet, but finding closet doors for it was a challenge.

It’s an odd shape/size and sliding doors would never have worked. SO, it sat there like a weird relative, staring at us for four years. (Coach’s boots and ball caps slowly took over the corner)

Late last year, I finally bit the bullet and said to the Coach: I found a place that makes custom bifold/barn doors, they’re super expensive, but we’ve got to do something. Bonus: They’re made in the USA!

It took a few months for them to arrive and when they did, that was a whole ‘nother issue. The doors were shipped by JB Hunt in an eighteen wheeler, in custom made crates. They weighed SIX HUNDRED pounds with the crates. I couldn’t have them delivered to the house because I don’t currently keep a warehouse forklift here to be able to pick up the crates from the eighteen wheeler at my driveway gate. I was perplexed when the shippers called me, explaining the logistics, then my husband reminded me that we have forklifts and many men working at our factory, so I had the doors delivered there. How do I forget these things? Our guys were able to bring them to our house from the shop and we had one of our Install Guru’s put them up for us.

Here’s the progress from beginning to end. Mind you, that open cavern with boots/hats/boxes stacked up? We looked at that for at least four years.

We moved a lot of Coach’s stuff in there, so now our regular master closet is not so jam packed.

Please don’t unfriend me, ’cause I feel like I’m being overly braggadocios with all my updates; but, I don’t think I’m the only one who gets a high when their To Do List has more checked-off marks, than unchecked.

Who uses the TTFN phrase from Tiger? It’s one of my faves.

I don’t want anyone to worry and call the Popo Lolo looking for me, because I’ll be mostly MIA in the next few weeks.

Don’t miss me too much and happy Mother’s Day!

XO

  1. It is a great feeling to get sh*t done! Those are fancy sliding barn doors! I would have been bothered by that empty nook as well.

Dumb question, but what was wrong with the tile floor? I can’t tell. I would have DIED seeing those paw prints. DIED!

    1. I died a little after seeing what the girls did to the bathroom floor!

You can’t see it in the pics, but the grout was so stained in some areas, even bleach wouldn’t remove it. I think the concrete/underlining off the original shower floor was leaching into the grout. It was an eyesore and always looked dirty.

  2. Nothing’s ever easy, is it? I think that’s what makes it even more satisfying in the end though :) Both the flore and the closet look great – good job! Happy Mother’s Day weekend!!

      1. I about died when I saw the pic of the doggy prints. Oh crap. I thought it was not gonna come off, but glad it did. What a relief. Still GIRLS! While I was running this am, I saw a woman walking two Frenchies. I was like ‘Hi Suz imposter.’

Our kids’ shower is in need of some work. I love our tile, but the grout will never look nice again. I know this because I have tried everything to clean it. Including using all my strength to SCRUB it. That counted as an arm day. Sigh. I do not want to redo the whole shower. Sob.

The shower floor and the closet doors look awesome. Having a forklift owning husband sounds handy.

        1. That other woman with the two frenchies probably ALSO needs her head examined. 😉

This was also our issue with the shower tile; there was no way to make it look good again. Ours was fifteen years old and I did appreciate the fact that it lasted that long, with all the use and abuse.

  3. Welp, what a thing to happen to your new beautiful floor. Still dogs gonna dog, aren’t they?

Your closet doors are pretty and unique, I’ve not seen any quite like them elsewhere. [While that may sound snide, it’s not meant to be.]

As for telling us about getting things checked off your to-do list, it’s not bragging it’s inspiration. If you can do it, so can I… right?

  4. The new shower tiles look great! I laughed out loud at the picture of the paw prints! Love the new closet1 Those doors are beautiful! I don’t think its braggy to share when something gets done. It’s exciting and you want to share the joy! Have a good time whatever you are doing!

  5. Pie cabinet? Man, you guys must really love your desserts if you keep them in the bedroom with you. No judgement though! I enjoy a nice slice of pie every now and then myself! Question: fruit or cream?

  6. I laughed out loud at the doggie footprints! Of course they’ll go investigate. I do not think you are being braggy at all. You guys have worked so hard you deserve all the nice things. We have been investing in real estate for years now and every time we sold a property my husband would buy a new one. He was obsessed with it. Hence there were very little improvements and upgrades to our house. We sold a house last year and I put my foot down. We’re getting older and I asked him “do you want to die and leave me with all the money”? So we have been buying furniture and doing upgrades. And if I mention it to someone, I actually think who is this talking? But it is fun!
ps We will miss you when you’re gone. Have fun.

    1. I’m glad you finally put your foot down and demanded that you are ahead of everything else. You should have a nice spot to land at the end of the day! We will have a great time, and I can’t wait to tell you all about it! 😉

  7. Oh, hang on . . . Also, I don’t think you are bragging. Everyone knows getting around to getting the stuff done is an accomplishment. Not bragging.

Safe travels and looking forward to hearing about what you are up to when you return.

  8. I’d have been tempted to find a way to keep the pawprints as part of the design–they’re just that cute. Seriously.

That corner alcove would have driven me batty. I’d have stuck some fake trees and a rattan chair or something in there to prevent it from becoming a dumping ground. Not an ideal solution, but…

I’m glad you got so many things accomplished and just the way you envisioned. Enjoy your time away.

    1. I could live with the dog prints for a day. But that would be it for me. 🙂

I think I was batty for a while about the corner, but eventually, after you look at something day in and day out, you just become oblivious to it.

  9. Someone should just start a blog with photos of to-do lists with things crossed off. I would read that in a heartbeat. My Sunday to-do list is only half crossed off and I’m going to have to walk the dog in fifteen minutes and then start getting ready for bed, so a lot of those items are going to be on my Monday to-do list. *sigh* But that would be a FASCINATING blog project, wouldn’t it? We all love to spy on how other people spend their time.

  10. Oh the feeling of accomplishment after putting something off for years! That is the best high of all.

The floors and the closet doors are perfect.

Hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day, my friend.

  11. THE PAW PRINTS

Oh, dogs, what would we do without them? We’d have much cleaner houses, that’s for sure. Much sadder and less joyful houses, but cleaner *side eyes the floor*

The closet looks fantastic, and so does the tile!
