Seeking Suz’s Sister?



I love watching the show The Locator. Have you seen it? Troy Dunn is the locator, he locates long lost relatives.
It always makes me cry..whether there is a happy or sad ending, I drop some salty water.
On a recent episode “the locator” reunited a Mom and her teenaged daughter with her oldest daughter that she had to give up for adoption when the mom was a teen herself.
You follow me?
How awesome would that be? Mucho awesome.
I keep hoping my Mom will surprise me one day with this bit of news:

“Surprise, you have a sister.”

Perhaps my long lost Sister is reading this right now.
Hi Sister! Now, get over here and braid my hair.

I suppose what I am saying is, I wish my Mom had been more promiscuous back in the day.
Then I could possibly have a sister today.

  4. MWAHAHA! I never saw the show, but I love your concept of having a long lost sister to braid your hair. You missed the most important thing a sister can bring to you life though – she can be the one to clean up the room you share while you're growing up. I speak from experience…but not room cleaning experience.

  15. i have sisters and it is not all it is cracked up to be. i see hallmark commercials of sisters loving each other, we were never that way. i am trying to teach my girls to be that way to always take care of each other, but it doesn't always work, be careful asking your sister to braid your hair, she may pull hard just to make you scream

  16. Beautiful picture of you and your mom. I have a sister but I would not trust her to braid my hair – she would probably put knots in it for me!!!!!!! Just teasing.I love ya like a sis too but I'm no good with hair period. I can shave John's head and Harriet if that counts!

  18. I just want you to know that I did braid my little sister's hair. I may not have done it very well, but I tried.As far as your mother is concerned, forgive her for not giving you a sister but don't block her from your blog.

  22. Poor Mama…. I'm sorry she never told you that she has 4 more kids —by 4 different men… That means you have two more sisters and two brothers…. The sisters are Bertha Mae and Edith Buelah… The brothers are Bubba Joe and Jimbob Roy…. Now—you wanna meet em all?????   25. we always watch the locator. i have a crunch on troy. i want him to find me.well as you know our first 2 are adopted so thats why it means alot to me.i just love it and oh yes we cry at each one too.i'll be your long lost sister AND i'll braid your hairs if i can nibble on the pups… and i will nevah make you eat a pea.what an adorable picture of you n your mama.

  26. Ya, me either…and my mom WAS! But all I got was a snotnose little brother. All he did was pull my braids! So I've gathered up a couple on the blogs.Tell your mom it get's easier after the first time…commenting of course 🙂

  29. Your mom may be forced to comment, just to keep you from mentioning her lack of promiscuity again. Gee, that could be bad for the reputation.My daughter once braided her big brother's hair. (He was in his hippy stage.) They both thought it was hilarious fun.

(But damn funny, and HEY that's what we bloggers strive for, right…?!)Like me, you don't have a sister. BUT it's not too late for us to find some freaky compound, wear shapeless cotton dresses, give our hair swoopy bangs (sleep w/orange juice cans as rollers?) and be SISTER WIVES.Or maybe NOT.

I’m grateful I have a wonderful sister, especially now that may parents are gone, but when I was younger I was envious of girls who were lucky enough to have a big brother, who I imagined would be a strong and protective guardian angel. Many have told me since then, though, that was not the reality of life with a big brother! You’re lucky your mom is still around to read your blog. Some of my relatives read my blog but don’t comment, too. What a great picture of you and your mom!

    1. Barbara thank you so much. This is an old post, and for some reason I found it in my drafts and I re-published it. I did have a big brother who I lost when I was 21. He mostly tormented me and gave me a hard time! But boy do I miss him. I did lose my mom back in 2015; I do feel like an orphan.

      1. Oh my! I didn’t know posts could be re-published and I failed to notice the date when I began reading your post. So sorry for the loss of your brother and your mother. I think that when we lose a parent we do feel like orphans, no matter how old we are at the time. Remembering my mother used to complain about her little brother being a mischief-maker…
