Old ladies {and} hair seem to be a running theme.

I had an epiphany this past week. If I were a normal human, it would be about something really deep and life changing. But my epiphany came when I was at a red light next to a bus for an assisted living community. I noticed a photo of an older couple on the back of the bus and they were so smiley and happy. Then I noted the ladies’ hair style.

Surely, this question can’t offend anyone, well, at least I hope not but do all older ladies have the same hairstyle?

Wait, what even constitutes being an old lady anymore since people live to be 100 or more? 79? 85?

I digress; this all led me to wonder what my old lady hair style would be and what day next week will I wake up with it?

Who else misses the Golden Girls? *Suz raises one hand furiously while holding her bat wing with the other*

And then I delved even further into my head and wondered if I’m ALREADY equipped with my old lady hairstyle. I mean, I have a version of the classic bob. Is that old lady-ish? Am I one pin curl away from needing assistance and living with a gaggle of Golden girls? These are the things that fill my head and keep me from remembering simple algebra or where I left my cell phone.

Speaking of old ladies

It was yet again time for us to make dog food for Callie and Max. The Coach and I had a conversation prior to going to Costco for the ingredients that went something like this:

Coach: Do you think we should make our full batch of food? I mean, Max is going back to live with Lolo soon, and Callie, well Callie might leave sooner than that.

Me: OR she might outlive us. Lets make a big batch and put that positivity out in the universe.

Coach: You’re right, and she’s doing so good, she might be the one animal we have that perhaps will just ‘go in her sleep’.

*Suz rolls her eyes knowing full well we could never be that lucky*

Big batch of dog food it is!

I’m not sure if I shared how freaking happy they are to ‘lick the pans’ after their food is prepared; they know as soon as I get the food processor out that today will be a glorious day! *turn down your volume or put in some earplugs.*

Their biggest challenge with licking the pans (I don’t know this from experience) is that the pans actually MOVE. Look at me, giving the dogs a treat AND exercising them at the same time.

Smartie pants Max finally learned to put his paw foot down and lick until his licker was tired.

This is our last week in September. Goodness, that escalated quickly! So, next week things will be normal? Boring? Standing on my tippy toes: PLEASE, PLEASE!?!?

Well, that’s all the nonsense I have for today. Did you have an epiphany this week? Did it involve serious thoughts like mine or are you focused on minor worries like world peace or politics?

XO

  1. Buddy does the same thing when he eats! He got smart and puts his paws on the plate. And I love that you decided to put that into the Universe. I think that way too and it is a good way to think, I think. (That was way too much thinking for a Monday morning at 7:30)

I do wonder if I am slipping into my old lady hairdo slowly. That is kind of depressing. I kind of want to be that old lady that has the long hair that is wrapped into a bun in the back of her hair. My mom said her grandma wore her hair like that and I love that so much. Maybe that can be a pandemic goal or something. 🙂

    1. I wish I could have long hair and put it into a bun; I also love that. But my thin hair doesn’t do well much longer than I have it now. You should totally try to rock your G’mas ‘do!!

  2. Hilarious. I am seeing the trend here regarding random thoughts and how Coach might not be fully engaging because of the: “Huh?” Factor.

Honestly I have recently thought about old lady hair. As in- when will I cave and get the mandated short-do? Since I just got my hair to the longest it has been in forever- like maybe since I had kids, I think I might be the token odd ball lady with stringy white hair that is crazy thin but she still thinks she is rocking it.

Consider yourself warned: I might start sharing videos of my crew gobbling food/licking plates. It won’t be pretty. Seriously your kitchen looks like mine when I host a pasta dinner for a team and go WAY over board.

  3. My 90-year old mother has the Old Lady Do. But to be fair, she started sporting that in her 30s or 40s. And everyone told me I’d get a short haircut when I had babies “for the convenience”–you know, wash-and-wear hair.

    Nope.

Since the pandemic, no haircut yet. It’s now down to the middle of my 61-year old back. Holy crap, I might be busting out the old hot rollers pretty soon!

    1. Good for you with your long hair; I seriously wish mine would grow that long and still look like I had more than 19 hairs. Ahem, I have some hot rollers in case you need to borrow them. And now I’m wondering why I have hot rollers in 2020?

  4. My hair has been in a classic bob forever, although it’s a bit longer right now. My old lady hair will probably be a silver colored classic bob until I can’t take care of it anymore. Then it probably will resemble Einstein’s hair with bed head to boot!

  5. I totally know what you mean about the hairstyles and yes, I think so. But will it be different when we are old? Will our hair styles now be old lady hair styles in 30 years? It’s a question for the ages.

  6. I like the licking of the pans photos. That seems very normal to me. My epiphany of the week was that mean people can sometimes be hiding in plain sight, acting like nice people. I mean, I knew this– but last week brought it home to me in spades.
