Who Planted That, The Longest Meeting And The Prettiest Barn

Hello, it’s Me.

The Coach, and I along with the Frenchies headed to Georgia for a long getaway. Lest you think our long getaways are all R&R, sadly they are not. Back when we were deciding on purchasing a vacation home I thought I might actually get a vacation there. What was I thinking?! I envisioned ALL the relaxing and it’s merely another house to maintain! It might sound like I’m complaining, but I’m really not. OK, maybe just a tiny bit.

In my opinion, the only true vacation involves room service, dinners prepared for me, and no laundry.

To Quote Gomer Pyle: SURPRISE SURPRISE SURPRISE!

I consider myself fairly observant, so I was floored when I went out to our dog yard after we arrived and noticed this gorgeous yellow Azalea blooming. I DIDN’T KNOW WE HAD AN AZALEA IN THIS SPOT.

Where did that come from? I mean, I remember a little bush being there, but I didn’t know what it was, as I had never seen it bloom before.

Add in a flurry of tiger swallowtails, and be still my heart!

I was also super excited to see all of the blooming Dogwoods and pom-pom viburnum around our yard and elsewhere.

Within a day of arriving, I had the house full of groceries and made a big trip to the nursery to fill up the window boxes and large pots that needed updating. You might recall my Big Fall while updating the window boxes a few years ago so that task is solely up to the Coach as I’ve been put on restriction.

The Meeting Of Meetings

We had a few things scheduled for this trip and one was a meeting with our house builder and our designer, to iron out some details of the new compound house. Man, just typing Our Designer makes me feel all sorts of fancy and that we should be on an HGTV show.

Our meeting ended up being seven and a half hours long; mostly at our current house, but then we made our way to the actual property as well; still finalizing the driveway layout, dock placement in the pond, making sure we were happy with the views from our bedroom and kitchen, and the layout of the laundry room, as that is where I spend most of the time, don’tcha’know.

It was an overcast day, raining off and on, so the Georgia Clay was extra mucky and I refused to let the Frenchies wander into it.

WE COULD LIVE IN THAT

Coach’s Maintenace Barn is almost finished and she sure is pretty!

This barn will house his big equipment, but honestly, you could add in a little kitchen and bed area if you felt compelled and live there. (there is indoor plumbing)

My husband doesn’t know how to do things on a small scale and couldn’t half ass a project, he’s full assing everything, which can be both a curse and a blessing.

I’ve got much to share about this visit but that will have to wait as I’ve hit my (self-imposed) limit today!

Has anyone else been surprised by a New To You Plant in your space?

Could you live in a barn? On A Ranch? With Frenchies?

XOXO

  1. I have never even heard of a yellow azalea! How pretty is that? Here, there’s only white and various shades of red/pink/purple. I was thrilled our first spring in this house to see white calla lilies blooming around the foundation of the house. I never knew they could survive our winters, but they do and I’ve added more. And the best part is that the deer don’t eat them!!!

I could not live without sidewalks, so I’d have to pass on country living.

    1. It’s called Yellow Flame and it was an amazing surprise!!

I’d probably pee my pants seeing calla Lillie’s popping up; they must be gorgeous each spring.

Yep, zero sidewalks on the property as of now. If you visited, I’d just carry you around. 😘

  2. A yellow azalea! How pretty. A seven and a half hours long meeting? How horrifying. Yet you accomplished some things and doing that is important.

I could live most anywhere if it was quiet and safe and clean and comfortable. As for Frenchies… I’m not sure. I’ve only had cats, never dogs.

    1. Ally, there are so many details and layers to the upcoming project, with several structures. We all want it to go smoothly.
We’ve got plenty of quiet at the Double L ranch, and I’m a big fan of that as well.

  3. That is truly the prettiest barn! What a great space for storing and maintaining equipment.

Look at all those beautiful blooms! How fun to see everything in this stage of the season. Gorgeous.

  4. It’s not exactly the same thing, but your mention of Georgia clay reminded me of the song “Alabama Clay” by Garth Brooks and now that song is stuck in my head. THANKS FOR THAT, Suz.

The juxtaposition of two tiny Frenchies in a giant pickup truck made me laugh. Such cuties!

    1. You’re so welcome! I don’t know that particular Garth song, but it’s probably the same clay we have as it’s only one state over. 🙂

I know, those two little messes in that big ole truck—there’s something here that doesn’t add up.

  5. I would def live in that barn. It looks cleaner and more spacious, less cluttered than my current arrangement. No big surprise there. It is a beautiful space. I’m assuming no animals will be allowed to do their business in there.

If something new started to bloom on my property, I would not know what it was. Oh, exhibit A. We have purple flowers in the dirt/area around the gazebo size of the deck. I knew it was a weed, but I couldn’t think of the name of it. Coach reminded me: creeping Charlie. I think it’s pretty, but I think we will have to figure out a way to stop its spread. I would never be able to say things like “Look, a Dogwood in bloom.” Nope. I can identify a Weeping Willow. Does that count for anything?

The new project is so exciting, but I do get that it can be exhausting. The pic of the two little guys begging to get out of the truck is so funny.

    1. If it makes you feel better, the bees and butterflies LOVE blooming weeds, so you’re doing them a service. I didn’t always know the names of plants, but this is a skill I’ve acquired as I’ve matured. (Old people skills!)

  6. I could for sure live in a barn in a rural property but I am a big dog kind of person so will pass on your Frenchies. I adore your window box design and that barn is stellar in design which means the house won’t be half ass either!

    1. Bernie, we keep laughing to ourselves about these little dogs; they’re not made for Ranch Life and when they go, we will probably move up to a bigger rescue, like we’ve had in the past.

I agree, the barn is of Stellar Design and I know it won’t outshine the Full Ass house. 🙂

  7. It’s always a treat to find a surprise bloom, but a yellow azalea? Sweet!
And may I just say, when your husband builds a maintenance shed, he BUILDS a maintenance shed. Men all over Georgia are drooling I’m sure.

    1. I didn’t know it was an azalea until I used my handy dandy plant app. I was flabbergasted! I’m still trying to find old pics of that area to see how I missed this beauty.

The barn is drool worthy for sure!

  8. Ahhh look at those flowers! Amazing. OMG Suz, are we married to the same guy? “My husband doesn’t know how to do things on a small scale and couldn’t half ass a project, he’s full assing everything, which can be both a curse and a blessing.” – MINE TOO.

  9. That is one beautiful barn. And yes, I could live in that! I love the video of the bush and the butterflies. Of course, when we go on vacation, a cottage or vacation home we’re just doing all the same things but another location. I didn’t get a chance to comment on your last post. I’m a little older and don’t remember the apricot scrub or Buff Puff but we Canadians used Snap to scrub our face. It was something mechanics used to get grease off their hands. I think it could not be more abrasive but yes, I still have skin.

  10. It’s almost lake season, and that means I get to deep clean the lake house and grocery shop for it, too. Vacation Home: more vacuuming and more toilets to clean and more beds to make! HOORAY. I hear you. Sigh. It does add up to Being Worth It overall, though, doesn’t it?

I can’t decide which is prettier, that azalea or that barn. There’s a definite Wow Factor to both.

  11. The butterflies on the azalea bush look exactly like the butterfly that flew over us on the deck two days after my dad died! LOVE.

I love the picture of the doggies in the truck. ❤️

Coach’s maintenance barn is so gorgeous. LOVE.

  12. Not only could I live in a barn or on a ranch, but I often tell Tara I wish I were a farmer. There’s something about the lifestyle I find very appealing: all that land, being your own boss, the thrill of self-sustainability. Lots of work too, of course, but it’s honest work. I’m sure I’m romanticizing it though.

  13. Beautiful bushes and flowers. That barn is awesome and yes, I probably could live in it! I can’t wait to see the house you build! Love the frenchies looking out the truck window!
